Companies and organisations might encounter situations where facilitation payments are requested. It can happen during business activities such as crossing borders, obtaining licences and permits, transporting goods, or applying for services. Learn about FAFPI’s mission to address these challenges.

Often, the payments are small amounts demanded by a government official to expedite a routine process to which the organisation is already legally entitled without the payment.

Despite the relatively small amounts demanded each time, the cumulative demands for facilitation payments represent a significant sum harmful to the organisation.

Additionally, these demands pose a long-term threat to economic health and governance. They perpetuate a culture of corruption that can escalate into major corrupt acts.

However, individual companies and organisations often have very limited leverage to fight and oppose these demands successfully.

The Initiative represents a collective response to the frustration experienced by companies and organisations unable to address facilitation payments alone.

Its members work to change the game’s rules by establishing robust internal policies within companies and organisations and collecting data on the instances of facilitation payment demands.

This data constitutes the evidence needed to persuade relevant authorities and civil society stakeholders to change the game and eliminate these demands.
